Our Song S1 Rewatch : Episode 8
(Update on Episode 7 - It was a Group A vs Group B contest . From Group B, Chris/Mimi and Tanya/Ayunga was competing against Group A members. Out of the four Group B members, only Ayunga made it out to form a new team with a Team A senior. Tanya, Chris Wong and Mimi Lee were unfortunately eliminated. It was heartbreaking😭).
Full Episode 8 with subs:
youtube
Group A's Team WangZha(Luo Qi Wang Linkai) and JieTouPaiDang (Ren Xianqi and Liu Yuning) will battle Group B's NaZhan(Na Ying, Xiao Zhan) and YiJianQingXin(Emil Chau, Jiang)
As they are top two groups from both A and B, these two teams have an advantage. Only one senior and one newcomer will be eliminated, remain, unlike previous episode which had two senior and two newcomers eliminated.
Format is unpredictable. There will be a three round battle between the two teams.
The winning team both pair makes it through to next episode. In the losing team, any one senior and one newcomer will be eliminated based on audience votes. They could be a pre-existing pair or a brand new pair.
Na Ying had to take care of something urgent at home, so Angela Chang is helping out NaYing by taking her place.
Banter between Emil Chau and Richie Ren is adorable. It is obvious they have known each other for a long while, the way they were pulling each other's leg.
Group A named themselves " Qi Yu" A Chance Encounter Squad". Group B named themselves "Shao Hua Yi Zhan", which is a mix of the names of all four members.
First round :
Group A's performance is 'Fade Away' sung by Wang Linkai aka Xiao Gui, and Liu Yuning. Unfortunately the solo video of the song has now been 'privated', I'm assuming due to copyright reasons (Original song was sung by Jay Chou).
Performance was wild!!! Extremely stylish for starters. Loved Liu Yuning's vocals the most, he has a raspy tone to his voice, suits with both rap and classic. He pulled it off very well. Ending was magnificent ! His vocals accompanied by Xiao Gui's rap, and the overall composition is excellent.
While comments from other team members, I felt Liu Yuning did put Xiao Zhan on the spot on asking specifically for his feedback, also quipping "everyone wants to hear what he says". But Xiao Zhan held himself well, and gave a really nice feedback, which ended up in another cute banter between Emil and Richie😍
Angela's impersonation of Na-Jie is super adorable 😍😍
Next is Group B's performance, which was by Angela Chang and Jiang YiQiao. The song they chose is "The Furthest Place we can See". Angela commented that Jiang looked quite nervous, but the remake arrangement should remove a lot of the burden from her.
The performance was beautiful, but it felt Angela's voice was overpowering Jiang. She did look nervous, I would say she's more comfortable performing with her Shifu. The gave it a good fight.
The end comments were very appreciative. Emil was so emotional, and as Lin Hai commented, his face represented the four seasons 😆. Cute attempt by Xiao Zhan to raise votes 😆
youtube
Group A won by 4 points only. Group A scored 142 and Group B scored 138. Tough round, more to come.
Second Round:
Group A discussed on what to perform next. Since two songs had Xiao Gui in it, they decided to have his second song in the last round to retain the element of surprise. Group B wanted to have the most powerful song in the end, and have 'Inquiring' as the second song. Like Emil said, "having a handsome man helps 😆".
Round 2 begins. Xiao Zhan and Emil Chau sang 'Inquiring'. What a stunning performance! Beautiful stage, and spectacular singing by them both. This is actually my most favourite performance of Our Song Season 1.
youtube
It was so touching when Emil hugs Xiao Zhan in the end, and said "out of all the times they sang, that was the best". And later he said, how hard working Xiao Zhan is. He had been singing this song everywhere, eating, going to the toilet, sitting on the sofa or even in the corridor 😆 He can stop now.
Comments from the other contestants were very warm and affectionate. Angela remarked as to how it reflected their own life experiences. Emil with his enormous experience and stage presence, and Xiao Zhan with his sense of freshness brings something uniquely new to the song.
Group B's turn now. It was interesting to see Richie and Liu Yuning collab on the composition and music. Richie, Liu Yuning and Luo Qi are singing "Back here again", with a mash up of another traditional song "Any empty bottles left for sale". The composition with both classical and rock was excellent.
Their thought process with choosing the song was good, they kind of knew Emil and XZ would go for a smooth melodious song. So they went with a classical rock version that would make the audience get up on their feet and sing with them.
youtube
Group B won by 6 votes. They scored 143 and Group A scored 137. Hence we get down to third and final round.
Third Round :
Group B goes first. It's one of Emil's golden classic 'Flowery Heart' that is performed by all four team members. In the rehearsal, we can see that Na Jie was a part of the song selection process, and that its a relief for Emil that he doesn't need to memorise new lyrics 😆😆
The harmony between all four members is spectacular! And yes this is a super popular song with beautiful lyrics. They played their trump card at the end. What a perfect ending for Group B. It seems they decided on not doing a 'remake' but keep the original tone and lyrics, full of nostalgia of the past.
youtube
A comment from Emil after the performance "In today's competition, there is no victory or loss. The victory is that of the well loved classic that accompanied us through life".
Group A singers for the final round are Richie Ren, Luo Qi and Xiao Gui. They sang "Am I really left with Nothing". Great performance! And Xiao Gui's rapping was brilliant 😍
youtube
Group B wins by a margin of 18 votes. They got 149 votes, Group A got 131 votes. This difference was the highest between all three rounds. All members of Group B will be passing through to the next episode. In Group A, one newcomer and one senior will be eliminated.
Lin Hai send handwritten notes to everyone in Group A, which contained their results. Richie and Liu Yuning made it. Luo Qi and Xiao Gui were sadly eliminated.
Final thoughts:
One of the things that stood out for me was the absolute banter between Emil and Richie. It shows how long they've known each other to pull each others leg and pat on the back the same time.
In my opinion, Group B should have swapped second and third songs. Xiao Gui is an excellent rapper but interesting song would be attractive to only a certain generation of people, compared to "Flowery Heart" which is a golden era classic. Hence the difference in the votes was so huge.
My favourite song in the episode is Inquiring. Followed by Flowery Heart and Back here again. Xiao Zhan seems really excited to collaborate with Emil. Hope to see many future collaborations.

Have you listened to the CQL character songs?
yes i have. and obviously that's not a satisfying answer on its own so here we go, half-baked and incoherent thoughts on the songs (style, instrumentals, vocals, lyrics when i deem relevant) please remember that i have no legitimate nor professional leg to stand on
preface on my 'meh' with character songs: when i listen to a character song, it hits the bad spot of 'too-on-the-nose' lyrics that squick me. i don't want other people to know i'm listening to this nerdy fan shit. i don't want a recitation of the plot. but this is easier to when i can't fully understand the lyrics (so very fast mando or jpn) if i even catch a hint of a lyric i understand and i don't like it, my face scrunches up like eating a whole lemon
so...
wwx: 'song ends with chenqing' - oh man, that is peak cpop cheesy ballad, w the sound effects, production, the melodic development. i like the operatic bridge. but it's not the one i think of as an untamed character song. but i guess like wwx it's a bit unexpected. while i like the song, there are songs i like more and go to first, and i end up forgetting this one. xiao zhan has a nice voice, but it's too perfect. compared to the character he plays, it's quite tame.
lwj: 'never forget' - oh this is a fucking character song. gusu. emperor's smile. all the wangxian checkmarks lol. and the way the chorus goes up - made for wailing during karaoke (aka the best metric for judging cpop/cballads) i can't listen to it too much bc the instrumentals really demand your attention, with the guqin in the beginning, and the big crescendo as the bridge. also i'm not used to wang yibo's voice being so soft. (btw check out his song 无感/no sense; i think it was a clapback to some of the rather harsh criticism he got for his role in cql. also he sang a song for this outdated mmo that's v cute)
wn: (i might be wrong) 'red child' - idk if the phrase has another meaning, but that's what i recognize the characters as (someone translated it as 'pure child'??? wtf). i like yu bin's vocals. i can't watch the lyrics video bc it's def a character song. the backing strings are so traditional chinese score-type music. cute pipa (i think). again, i like it but it's usually not the song i'm looking for.
jc: 'hating separation/hate-filled parting' - HOLY FUCK I LOVE THIS ONE. wang zhuocheng's voice is the right pitch and timbre, the instrumentals are enough to set the stage and let the melody of the vocals lead the way, and despite it being very distinctly a character song, the lyrics and melody almost feel like a folk song. like an oral tale, like a lullaby or someone singing it out on a river. idk how to describe it, when the notes feel like they're flitting up and down, birds coasting along the wind (that's what i liked about audio drama wangxian's verses and then their chorus cocked it up)
i love the melody of the chorus - karaoke material. and then once again with that final chorus key change, oh you're wailing it!
okay moving on
lxc: 'beyond control' - i love the piano start. so many sad cpop songs like this fuck, and then the drums and the winds WOW aurally satisfying! and liu haikuan's voice is this nice angsty, raspy quality that just slays me. the lyrics are quite poetic, to the point it's hard for me to pick up without the words in front of me and that's great! the melody doesn't do it for me as hard as others, but overall, the best thing i can say is that i would be willing to play this over aux while chauffeuring my parents w/o fear of judgement.
nmj&nhs: 'separation at qinghe' - the lyrics are too character song for me. but i love the instrumentals (i would put it in my two steps from hell-eqsue playlist for extreme coding time), and the vocals. this is a song to be belted out under the moonlight after 3 cups of soju. but it's too intense for regular listening.
wq: ' whisper of the woods' - it's not wq's actress singing this one. it hits all the prerequisites to be in my middle school cpop playlist: not too intense instrumentals, a clear and sweet voice, a typical .. uh, melodic resolution for these types of songs? i think there are a few lines i don't like the cadence of during the chorus, but eh. i'll live.
xy: 'liberation at the deserted city' - also not sung by the actor. this is a movie soundtrack song, the vocals go off but the instrumentals give it space. like, in a theoretical yi city movie the song would play w/o vocals and during the credits, the w/ vocals version would play. i like her 'lalalalalalaaaaaaaaa' but it's not enough to get me listening to it all the time. also... xue yang's song is like this????
yi (-eet) city: 'lonely city' - (by a-qing's actress chen zhuoxuan, and sun bolun) FUCK THIS SONG MAKES ME CRY. it's too nerdy to play out loud and that sucks. because I LOVE THE INSTRUMENTALS BECAUSE IT'S SO FUCKING LONELY SOUNDING AND THE VOCALS AND EVEN THE CHEESY AND DIRECT LYRICS FUCKING GET TO ME BC OF THE CADENCE OF DELIVERY. tell me about shuanghua and the candy that xy wants to eat, you sing about that sad shit!
hhhhhh....
AND HOLY SHIT SECOND VERSE, THAT INSTRUMENTAL COMING IN W THE DRUMS; WHEN CHEN ZHUOXUAN TRADES OFF W SUN BOLUN oooooohhhhhhhhhh every time my breath catches in my chest just from the transition into a more complex version of the same drum rhythm, and how his voice does this thing that feels like he's exhaling a sob, and the harmony with chen zhuoxuan's voice throughout, holy fuck, i'm not a musicologist but something about this song and how it came together fucking hit the resonance frequency for my shitty brain and oh fuck. oh god.
they got it. the characters. the mood. yi city. i put this shit on repeat. i purposefully went on long drives and blasted this song on my fancy sound system.
(there are some songs that trigger an instant tear response, just by the combination of notes and sound textures they hit. this is one of them)
junior squad: 'youths that should not be underestimated' - look, by now my opinions are not new. none of the character songs are offensive by any means. sick guitar wails - i like that. but i cannot deal with the vocals bc without visuals, i imagine a middle-aged man singing on the chinese equivalent of american idol (not saying middle-aged men cannot sing bc they fucking hit it), but the cognitive dissonance is there and kills me. the vocal... uh idk the way to describe it, but it would suit an instrumental backing w more traditional elements or a slower song. or an adult character.
jyl/jzx: 'eternal farewell' - not by the actors. i don't pay too much attention to the lyrics for this one bc my mando sucks. female voice by itself is a bit jarring bc it's a bit saccharine. but that duet for chorus is giving me mad karaoke vibes. definitely a fun one to sing, but i don't seek it out to listen to.
jgy: 'the birth of hatred' - HAHAHAHAHA IT'S THE DUBSTEP ONE. i laugh but i had this on repeat in... uh, apr-aug 2020 to get me through early quarantine. good for mindlessly working. the singer is an idol singer (not the actor), which makes perfect sense with how the song turned out. i really love the melody of the chorus, and zhu xingjie's voice really goes into it esp near the end. the rap/hip-hop verses is cheesy but i'm down for a decent verse - he's got aight cadence but there's not much leeway when it comes to character songs. you run into the issue like vocaloids where people cram too many words in one line.
the chorus makes me want to sing it, gives me good nostalgia for 2000s chinese cpop songs. my mind is stuck on richie jen's 诛仙我回来/zhuxian wo hui lai/??? I'm coming back vibes. i want to play it out loud, but it needs to be by myself. people who don't understand chinese go ???? at the dubstep fusion, and people who understand chinese that aren't cql watchers/fans will be (ʘ ͟ʖ ʘ)(ʘ ͟ʖ ʘ)( ͡ಠ ʖ̯ ͡ಠ)
like i don't want to be stuck for more than 20 mins and this song plays while my dad is there to lecture me. i'd just put the car in park at the intersection and walk out.
and that's a wrap!
#opinionated verm#Anonymous#inquiry#i do the 'repeat a song until i go deaf' thing and why i like a song isn't... it just has to hit right#so don't feel offended if i didn't like your favorite song as much as you did#you asked and i told#cql#verm is listening...

Let's talk facts my BJYX fam,
This is a fun video and all, I made a funny tweet about this myself but FOR REAL THOUGH,
Anybody who knows Yibo knows that he's... Well he's different. He doesn't fake being polite, he straight up calls people out who makes him uncomfortable and he doesn't really like to socialise.
Xuan Lu herself said that it takes a person like Xiao Zhan to bring Yibo into conversations.
Now back to Yibo who is quite closed off: clearly he takes time to warm upto people which is why it makes sense that he's only close with Uniq members, seeing as they've been together for years.
But he's SO comfortable with Xiao Zhan, almost as if he's more comfortable around him than the members he lived together for years with.
Obviously XZ and YB became close during the few months of shooting of 'The Untamed' which is why their bond is even more special. They grew close at an accelerated speed within those few months.
Looking at their personalities (especially Yibo's who rarely even SMILES ) it's safe to say that the pair are extremely fond of each other.
Even during TU BTS, Yibo is either playing around with XZ or he's by himself just sitting there and looking pretty.
In the above video also you can see he was just in the corner but meekly cut in and said "It's because you're handsome".
My point is, their bond is really fucking strong and I've only seen one other group of people that are this close and that's BTS but their dynamic is totally different because they've been living together FOREVER and they have personally been through so much together so it makes sense.
So Wangxian having this much of chemistry and bonds that as my friend likes to say "coincidences" are almost too much for just to be dubbed as coincidences.
There's also the fact that Yibo is quick to deflect any questions regarding marriage and old age directed at Xiao Zhan. They were asked about marriage and Yibo jumped in and passive aggressively shut the interviewer down even when the question was directed at XZ mainly.
Not to mention how at a concert or fan meet he knew XZ had a bad backache (his waist was injured) he let XZ win in that tug of war where they were attached with a band on the waist. That was really sweet and thoughtful.
instagram
I was honestly taken aback by how Yibo compliments and teases XZ and going as far as to actually blurt out that he loves him infront of everyone.
I have also noticed that Yibo refrains from making hurtful comments even as a joke to XZ. Like with the uniq members he'd just go off (jokingly ofc my bb is not a meanie) and according to this interview where XZ refers to YB as a 'little' friend he gets so offended because he doesn't want XZ to see him as a kid. He says he doesn't consider XZ as old either.
instagram
In that industry you'd be happy to have people coddle you and think of you as their junior but YB doesn't want XZ thinking he's some tiny kid.... I'll let you think about the reasons for it.
As we've seen MULTIPLE times YB compliments XZ saying he's handsome and it's honestly getting annoying now like WE GET IT YIBO YO ASS THIRSTY FOR XIAO ZHAN. (jk it's very cute)
Again, Yibo thinks he's the hottest shit and doesn't really compliment others yet with XZ he's all rainbow farting and I think that's so beautiful.
Honestly the leg hair part was so funny lmao
but in all seriousness, he legit chased XZ around the room complimenting him I'm???
I feel like Yibo compliments him purposely just to see XZ blush and get all flustered.
I'm 21 y/o and I think I know flirting when I see it okay lol. Being an ARMY I've seen so much of delulu shippers and theories and the whole sharing /matching clothing stuff are just stupid because as I mentioned before, BTS are a whole other complex dynamic plus when u live together with friends you obviously share jewellery and clothes.
If what I'm talking about is confusing I'm referring to this post by @argusbjyx9277
https://jungoos-pink-backpack.tumblr.com/post/189404287168/xiaozhan-and-yibos-clothing
But that's not the case with actors is it??
First of all, they don't spend time together aside from shooting unless maybe to have drinks or something but with busy schedules it's almost impossible so I highly doubt those friends meet up and talk about fashion and matching jewellery then and they don't live together so...
So, in conclusion: I think whatever relationship wangxian have is beautiful and that Yibo is extremely, absolutely, undeniably infatuated with Xiao Zhan and vice versa.
That being said, I'm glad Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo have each other because it's really easy to feel lonely when you're at the top. You need someone who truly understands.

Snow - Chapter 15
Entire fic. AO3.
---
Wei Ying is still basically sitting in Lan Zhan’s lap, and his temple is stuck against Lan Zhan’s cheek as Wei Ying dials Jiang Cheng’s number. It’s not the gentlest way of easing Jiang Cheng into this, but Wei Ying has found out a long time ago that gentle easing tends to backfire dramatically where Jiang Cheng is concerned. So, he shamelessly snuggles into Lan Zhan’s side and holds the phone so that both of them are visible in the video.
“What the fuck are you doing?” is the first thing out of Jiang Cheng’s mouth once he finally answers the call.
“Hello, dearest brother,” Wei Ying sings. “I love you too, and it’s a pleasure to see you.”
“Who is this?” Jiang Cheng asks, eyeing Lan Zhan suspiciously through the video feed. He clearly has no interest in pleasantries and idle chat.
“That, my dear brother,” Wei Ying announces with a wry smile, “is my boyfriend, Lan Zhan. Lan Zhan, this is my very unrefined and rude brother, Jiang Cheng. Jiang Cheng, I’m going to move in with Lan Zhan, so I have to give you my new address. Can you also inform your parents?”
“Excuse me??” Jiang Cheng barks through the phone. “How can you be moving in with someone I’ve never heard about? I won’t allow it!”
“Jiang Cheng, Jiang Cheng,” Wei Ying sighs. “You forget we’re all adults now. I can do whatever I want, and I’ve decided to move in with Lan Zhan. If you’re a good boy, I’ll invite you and you can come see our rabbits. But you can’t shout, they’re delicate.”
“I CAN SHOUT AS MUCH AS I WANT TO, WHAT THE HELL,” Jiang Cheng shouts into his mobile phone. “Why the fuck do you suddenly have a boyfriend? And since when do you like men? He didn’t do something bad to you, did he?”
“Tss, now that’s kind of rude, Jiang Cheng,” Wei Ying teases, a little amused that his brother is reacting exactly the way he imagined him to react. “And it’s not men I like. It’s Lan Zhan that I like. Let me tell you, if you saw him in the flesh, you would know why–”
“NO!!!” Jiang Cheng shouts. Then he takes a deep breath and pinches his nose. “Why are you always like this? I haven’t heart from you for like two weeks, and the next thing I know, you’re moving in with a man you picked up… who knows where?”
Well, that isn’t an entirely inaccurate assessment of the situation. And technically, Wei Ying picked him up at a bus station, which is not the ideal place for a budding romance. Or rather, Lan Zhan picked him up at a bus station. But he thinks it might be better if that little tidbit remains a secret between him and Lan Zhan alone.
“Jiang Cheng, I always knew you worried!” Wei Ying singsongs obnoxiously. “Ah, my heart is full of love and care.”
Jiang Cheng glares at him through the camera.
“But A-Cheng, Xiao Cheng, didi,” Wei Ying sighs. “There’s no need to worry. I’ve known Lan Zhan for a long time. Longer than you, actually. And if it wasn’t for him, I would never have been found by Father. You see, you should thank him that you got to have such an excellent adoptive brother.”
Jiang Cheng snorts dismissively.
“Excellent? You’ve been a pain in my ass since the day we’ve met. He should’ve kept you when he had the chance, my life would be much easier, then.”
“I will.”
Jiang Cheng does a double take at Lan Zhan, and even Wei Ying has to look up at Lan Zhan, a little confused.
“Lan Zhan?”
“I will keep him. If you cannot be grateful for your brother, I will take care of Wei Ying from now on.”
The ‘because you apparently can’t’ is not spoken, but still heavily implied.
Jiang Cheng sputters with inexpressible rage for a moment, so Wei Ying quickly steps in before the entire situation actually comes to blows.
“Stop,” he chides. “Both of you. Lan Zhan, Jiang Cheng is stupid and grouchy, but he’s still a good brother. Jiang Cheng, Lan Zhan takes good care of me. He’s the best boyfriend I could wish for. You can come here and see for yourself, but nothing you say can change my mind.”
Jiang Cheng glares again, this time at Wei Ying. Eventually, he asks, “Does Yanli know?”
“Yes, and she has given me her blessing.”
Jiang Cheng huffs. “We’ll see about that. Try to hold back on any other stupid ideas for a while, you hear me?”
And with that, Jiang Cheng hangs the phone up. Wei Ying breathes a deep sigh.
Lan Zhan pulls him closer, hugging him tight and burying his nose in Wei Ying’s hair.
“Oh man,” Wei Ying eventually sighs. “I shouldn’t have spoiled Jiang Cheng so much when he was small. I used to tell him that we’ll always be together, and now that I’m working here and not in Yunmeng, he’s constantly grouchy.”
“I will not give you back,” Lan Zhan says petulantly, and it makes Wei Ying smile. It’s always a really good feeling when Lan Zhan makes it clear that he has no plans of letting Wei Ying go again. There is still a part of Wei Ying’s brain that hasn’t learned to trust this new reality yet, that still expects to be shown the door at any time. But Lan Zhan never gives him an opportunity to doubt.
“I’m not leaving,” he assures Lan Zhan, and it makes him nervous and giddy at the same time.
Indeed, he’s not leaving. He’s going to stay here, in this house, with Lan Zhan, from now on. He can have as much of Lan Zhan as he wants, from now on.
Wow, he thinks to himself. Wow. How did I get to be so lucky? I’m going to be living with Lan Zhan! And we have bunnies!
He remains in Lan Zhan’s arms a little longer, basking in the feeling of being right there, with Lan Zhan at his side. But then, he keeps thinking about their new bunnies, and with new vigour, he wriggles out of Lan Zhan’s hold.
“Come on, Lan Zhan,” he says, holding out his hand to help Lan Zhan up. “We should go look after the bunnies. I’m sure they must be getting hungry by now. They’re probably waiting for their dinner.”
Lan Zhan takes his hand and doesn’t let go until they have arrived at the rabbit pen.
---
They eat dinner together with Lan Huan, and afterwards, they sit in Lan Zhan’s room and discuss which things they will have to pick up from Wei Ying’s apartment, what can be sold and given away because it won’t be needed anymore, and all the other practical aspects of moving. Wei Ying is happy to leave most of it to Lan Zhan’s proficiency, if he’s honest. It’s not like he particularly cares about a lot of the stuff that he has. He needs his books and research materials, but a lot of that is at university, anyway. Some of his favourite things have already ended up here, anyway. And Wei Ying will happily part with his old furniture. It was cheap, anyway, and Lan Zhan’s bed is much more comfortable than his.
“And if there’s something I need,” he concludes, grinning at Lan Zhan from where he’s lounging on the bed in his now customary red robe, “I have a rich husband to buy it for me.”
There is a slight twitch in Lan Zhan’s movements that tells him what Wei Ying has started to suspect this afternoon: Lan Zhan has a weakness for a certain word. And We Ying will make use of that as often as he possibly can.
“I’m very disappointed, though,” he sighs dramatically and lifts one of his legs, so his robe slips open. My husband has finally achieved his goal and has me exactly where he wants me to be, ready for him, and instead of giving me his manhood, he wants to talk about practical things.”
He can see that Lan Zhan’s ears are turning red, and smirks, self-satisfied.
“Well,” he sighs. “A man can always–”
He doesn’t get any further, because Lan Zhan stands at the edge of the bed the next moment, looking down at Wei Ying.
Wei Ying smirks and spreads his legs a little, so that the robe slips open a little more and reveals that he’s not wearing anything underneath.
“We’ve hardly seen each other all week,” he pouts. “I’ve been lonely.”
Instead of the expected reaction, however, Lan Zhan simply continues staring down at Wei Ying in silence.
“Lan Zhan,” Wei Ying whines. “I’ve been such a good boy. Haven’t I been a good boy all week?”
He lets one hand wander down his body, down to his abdomen and further in between his legs.
“I want you here,” he begs. He rubs a little at his opening, experimentally, and the thought of Lan Zhan fucking into him makes him shiver with excitement. “I want Lan Zhan to take me.”
He rubs himself again, and then lets one of his fingers slip into his entrance. He moans at the sensation, and he moans at the promise of sex. They’ve had sex on this bed before, that’s nothing new, but the thought that it really will be their bed from now on, one that they will share as partners, has him incredibly excited. He wants to be fucked into this bed by Lan Zhan, and make it theirs once and for all.
Finally, finally, Lan Zhan moves. He reaches out and takes Wei Ying’s hand, carefully extracting the finger Wei Ying slipped into himself.
“You’ve prepared yourself,” Lan Zhan observes quietly.
“Yes,” Wei Ying whines. “So Lan Zhan can fuck me good and hard. I’m all ready for you, please, Lan Zhan.”
Almost leisurely, Lan Zhan bends down and undoes the knot holding together Wei Ying’s robe. Lifting him up a little, he strips him out of it. Then he takes a soft tie, and fixes Wei Ying’s hands to the headboard, making sure that Wei Ying is comfortable. Only then, he strips off his own robe, revealing his beautiful and decidedly erotic body, and climbs onto the bed, leaning over Wei Ying.
Wei Ying is already hard and leaking just by being stripped and tied up by Lan Zhan, and the fire of desire burns hotly in his abdomen. There’s an ache there that wants to be filled. He wants Lan Zhan in him as soon as possible. They belong together now. He’s allowed to want things. He’s allowed to want Lan Zhan.
“Lan Zhan,” he groans, spreading his legs as much as he can. “Look at how wet and open I am for you. Take me, please.”
Lan Zhan gives Wei Ying a soothing kiss, and then sets out to explore his body from his fingertips downwards, making Wei Ying shiver and moan when Lan Zhan touches and explores all the sensitive spots that he can find on Wei Ying’s body, from the hollow of his shoulder to the inside of his thigh. After what seems to have been an eternity, Lan Zhan finally reaches the spot where Wei Ying wants to have him.
“Hmm,” Lan Zhan murmurs. “Wei Ying has indeed been a good boy. He deserves a reward.”
And then, just when Wei Ying thinks he’s getting fucked, Lan Zhan opens his mouth and licks at the droplets that are leaking from Wei Ying’s penis. Wei Ying gasps at the unexpected sensation, and he has to keep himself from screaming the next moment, when Lan Zhan slips a finger into his entrance and unerringly dives in to find the spot that makes him see stars.
“Lan… Zhan,” he manages brokenly as Lan Zhan starts suckling on his erect penis in earnest, and slips a second finger inside him. “If you do that, I’m going to come very, very quickly.”
Lan Zhan does something very clever with his tongue and his finger, and Wei Ying can only shake and writhe in desperate arousal.
“Lan Zhan,” he moans again. “I want yours, put it in, put it in.”
But Lan Zhan has no mercy. He keeps moving his fingers and his mouth mercilessly, finding just the places that drive Wei Ying wild. He can do nothing but lie there and take it as the tension in his body rises and rises, a desperate frenzy building in his body, a desire to beg Lan Zhan for more and beg him for mercy at the same time.
Lan Zhan’s fingers find that spot inside him again and again, the place that feels so good that his body jerks uncontrollably with every movement. It’s not enough, and yet, combined with Lan Zhan’s mouth on his dick, it’s too much – a sudden wave of electrifying pleasure and pain crashes over him, and he comes with a noise that sounds thoroughly inhuman.
He lies there for a moment, unaware of anything but the sensations that have him shaking and keening as Lan Zhan overstimulates every single sense of his body. He thinks he might be dying until Lan Zhan finally has mercy on him, and lets him go.
Wei Ying can only moan brokenly as Lan Zhan’s fingers slip out of him, leaving him a jittery, flushed mess. He somehow manages to beg Lan Zhan for a kiss. A kiss that Lan Zhan only gives him after he’s wiped his mouth.
(He’s so goddamn considerate for a man that loves to absolutely wreck Wei Ying until he can’t stand.)
Lan Zhan then releases the ties on Wei Ying’s wrists and gathers him in his arms, and they lie there for a while, basking in the silence.
“You’re still hard,” Wei Ying mumbles after a while. “We should fuck.”
“Patience,” Lan Zhan replies, kissing Wei Ying’s temple. “We will.”
“Good,” Wei Ying says, and closes his eyes to doze a little. He’s not really asleep, just enjoying Lan Zhan’s gentle hands on his still-sensitive body and trying to recover a little bit of energy. He’s not sure he can actually come again tonight, but he still wants Lan Zhan inside him.
It takes him a little while to recover, but after he’s finally stopped feeling all tingly and weird, he wriggles out of Lan Zhan’s hold and flips Lan Zhan on his back, straddling him. Lan Zhan looks beautiful from this vantage point, and there’s something very exciting about having a man like that between his thighs. There are things he wants to do to that man.
“Mmmh,” he hums. “Maybe I should try fucking you sometime.”
Not tonight, though.
He doesn’t wait for an answer from Lan Zhan, and instead raises his hips and moves back, steading himself so he slip Lan Zhan inside him. Lan Zhan’s hands rise and wrap rightly around Wei Ying’s waist to keep him steady, and then, with a moan, Wei Ying sinks on Lan Zhan’s dick. He wriggles a little to get used to the sensation, but yeah. That’s it. He still feels a little tingly inside, but he loves the feeling of having Lan Zhan inside him. Right now, Lan Zhan belongs only to him.
With the support of Lan Zhan’s steady grip, he starts moving, trying out what feels best. From time to time, Lan Zhan’s fingers twitch and tighten, and sometimes he releases a hard breath. So Wei Ying makes a game of it, experimenting with the pace and angle that he sets, and testing which movements make Lan Zhan jerk and pump up into him.
For once, it’s not him that’s most desperate to come, and the moan Lan Zhan lets out when he tightens around his dick is delicious. He keeps working Lan Zhan up, enjoying the look of desire on Lan Zhan’s face, and tries to tease more and more expressions out of him.
“Do you like it?” he asks as he sinks down on Lan Zhan’s dick again. “Being inside me? Knowing that your dick is in here right now?”
He taps his lower abdomen mischievously. Lan Zhan doesn’t reply, but his eyes blaze with desire.
“Do you like it?” Wei Ying asks again, grinning. “Filling me with your cum?”
That makes Lan Zhan finally snap. The hands on Wei Ying’s waist tighten painfully, and the next thing he knows, Lan Zhan is flipping them around, flinging Wei Ying onto the mattress so hard that he bounces a little.
Wei Ying laughs as Lan Zhan reaches for him again and draws him closer. He excitedly spreads his legs to let Lan Zhan slip into him again.
For once, Lan Zhan is discomposed. He fucks Wei Ying into the mattress with the desperation of a drowning man, seeking his own pleasure with single-minded determination.
With fascination, Wei Ying watches as an intense furrow develops between Lan Zhan’s brows. He grabs for him, holds him closer, lets Lan Zhan push him down with all the strength that he has. Lan Zhan jerks and pumps into him once, twice, three times, and then, he moans and releases his seed into Wei Ying before he finally stills.
Wei Ying feels victorious. It was all him. The person who make Lan Zhan lose control like that was all him.
He loves Lan Zhan so much.
They stay like that for a moment, intertwined tightly, Wei Ying’s legs wrapped around Lan Zhan’s hips and Lan Zhan grasping for Wei Ying, trying to keep him in his arms as tightly as he can. Wei Ying gives him tiny, soft kisses as Lan Zhan comes down from his high, and when he feels wicked (which is often) Wei Ying teases him with gentle, tickling fingers that make him shiver.
“Such a good man,” Wei Ying whispers into Lan Zhan’s ear. “Giving me all I want.”
Lan Zhan opens his eyes and searches for Wei Ying.
“Mine,” he says once their gazes have locked.
“Yes, Lan Zhan, oh husband mine,” Wei Ying assures him with a smile and a kiss. “I’m all yours.”
Then he grins mischievously.
“Now, about that part of me fucking you…”

Xiao Zhan: An Unyielding, Ambitious Gentleman
Original Article:https://www.weibo.com/ttarticle/p/show?id=2309404475603653886153#_0 Original Author: 雪色烟波里
I have been reading Portrait Magazine for longer than I have known Xiao Zhan, so when I heard that he was going to be on the cover of Portrait Magazine, my initial reaction was as though the fourth wall had been broken. Portrait Magazine had always been a magazine famous for reaching deeply into people’s lives, and Xiao Zhan, an actor who has just started his career, is he able to give a deep and exciting interview as required by Portrait Magazine? Very soon, I found out that my worry was needless, not only did he match the expectations, he exceeded it by giving a 7 hour long interview consisting of 20,000 over Chinese characters. As such, I decisively put down my order for Portrait Magazine, and entered the world of Xiao Zhan as an explorer.
In psychology, there is this famous theory about halo effect, which basically means that a person’s special or outstanding characteristic may overpower and cover all of his other qualities and affect our understanding of that person.
In Xiao Zhan’s case, most of the first impressions of him are of him being a good looking new celebrity, and maybe like all other looks based celebrities – a crazed fanbase, average acting capabilities and perhaps even shortsighted in terms of his career. However, the Portrait Magazine interview shattered this narrow minded view, and brought forth the true Xiao Zhan.
He is not a natural born star, but just someone who works hard to pursue his dreams.
Xiao Zhan’s experiences are almost legendary. Portrait Magazine describes him aptly – he broke into the entertainment scene by chance, battling without armor, and this means that he is an anomaly. After being an every-man person for 20 odd years, working in an industry totally unrelated to the entertainment business, he participated in an idol search variety show by chance and debuted as part of an idol group. After 3 years, he burst into the acting scene with “The Untamed”, and since then, his burst in popularity meant that he attained what many others tried for years in the short span of a few months.
In the short span a few years, he was able to work with the photographer that he used to follow as a photography senior; he was able to perform on the same stage with the very same idol that he used to fanboy. Just a few years ago, he was being interviewed as a commoner with movie dreams, and now he had became the lead role in a movie. This is almost miraculous, and this is even more so when you realize that Xiao Zhan did not let all of that go to his head. Instead, he is taking things one step at a time – “This is just the beginning.” I started following him because I wanted to see how an every-man person like him would survive the entertainment business with just courage.
Xiao Zhan can be considered as the icon of a commoner joining the entertainment business. With some understanding of him, you will realize that he is different from the carefully packaged idols and celebrities. He had a completely commoner education history, mature moral values and had been part of the working class. He went through the pains of society and therefore he does not put on airs, but instead, down-to-earth like every-man. In his words, he is simply “a common person, who happened to be working as a celebrity.” He calls himself “an entertainment business wage earner”, “Beijing drifter” and a “foreign staff”. Like many of us, he is a workaholic, he focuses on whether overtime is needed, and he still cannot afford an apartment in Beijing.
From the Portrait Magazine interview, you can see that he loves his career, finds joy in working hard in all he does, rejoices at the thought of knocking off and annoyance when his off-work time is being interrupted… to many, he might even feel like the “other self”, your alter-ego who is working hard in the entertainment business.
As such, I felt that it was very apt for Portrait Magazine to choose Xiao Zhan for an interview. Beneath the glitz and glory of him pursuing his dreams, we can see ourselves in him. At this point, some may ask, I had already been through a commoner’s lifetime, why would I want to follow another commoner? This, we will have to see what stands him apart from the rest of us.
He is not a perfect idol, but just a proactive perfectionist. Xiao Zhan could be said to be someone who has no shortcomings, or in his fans’ words, good in all that he does.
From his appearance, he has good looks that appeals to the mainstream, great height, long legs and amazing amount of hair on his head. He does not dye his hair, have any piercings, wears minimal makeup. To me, this is where I started noticing him. It is ridiculous that some would consider that as being feminine (not that being feminine is a bad thing, but there is absolutely no correlation here at all), because his clean looks, attitude and temperament points to him being a gentleman.
For his capability as an artist, his singing and acting abilities are good. His representative work “The Untamed” had garnered 7 billion views on Tencent’s platform with positive reviews; his participation in the variety show “Our Song” broke 2.0 on the viewership charts, and received widespread audience recognition and support, as well as the positive acknowledgements from the participating mentor singers. Even his weakness, dancing, received more than a million views on Bilibili, a video streaming platform in China.
Besides all these, he knows how to draw, cook, use Photoshop, etc. He does not display these skills deliberately, but brought up offhandedly in various interviews and shows. He does not want to use these to setup a character or a label of himself – these are just parts of him that shows up occasionally. I used to wonder why he seems to be favored by the stars, but after reading the interview, you realize that there is no all-round talent, but just plain hard work in the background.
Progressive improvements in his acting came from repeated practice of lines and every performance class he took. The perfect look under the camera lenses came from a strict discipline of diet and exercise plus professionalism. Singing and drawing was cultivated from his youthful passion. Diplomacy and tactfulness was learnt from his period of entrepreneurship. “For every single thing, if you want to do it, you do your best for it.” Xiao Zhan said, and also used his own actions to show that. No matter what he did – designer or artist, he did his best.
Many would think that this interview was a channel for him to bemoan about his miseries, but if you studied these 20,000 characters, you will realize that the interview simply laid down his steps and experiences. If you think that the interview showed that he is miserable, then he is, in fact, miserable. To me, the tale of Xiao Zhan is not a tale of misery, but a tale of a man who took the harder path, and an ambitious one at that. He went through the period of being a nameless extra in his acting career, but also attained the period of being a famous actor with countless awards under his sleeve. This is the result of him working hard not knowing the outcome, and this is something which is admirable – for not everyone has the determination to push on not knowing if there would be positive results for all of his efforts. He did, and therefore, he achieved these results.
“If you have the time to discuss, why not just do it?” Xiao Zhan offhandedly said this phrase, which made a deep impression on me. He had always been proactive, one who personifies “actions speak louder than words”.
While others were still mocking him for weak lines, he had already done his work to practice them. Waiting on the horizon were “The Oath of Love”, which would not be dubbed over; “The Most Beautiful Performance”, a series of short clips with acclaimed directors; “I Like You Liking Me”, a play to be performed on CCTV’s Spring Night. It might not be of the highest quality, but the improvement was evident in all of that.
While others were mocking him for needing the director to teach him step by step for his role in “Joy of Life”, he has already found teachers and attended countless performance classes. It is only through Portrait Magazine’s interview that we discovered that the director in “Joy of Life” is actually his teacher, but somehow, that particular behind-the-scenes video was twisted to become evidence of Xiao Zhan’s lack of acting skills. His improvements had always been constant, and so instead, I look forward to his new works coming this year.
While others were mocking him for being nervous in his first fashion show, he had already looked into improving his overall aura, and in his subsequent red carpet events, he is already a star.
While others were mocking him for not being generous in disaster efforts, or even spreading rumors of him faking donations, he never said a word to explain himself, but made arrangements behind the scenes to purchase critical medical supplies and equipment to be sent directly to the heavily affected city of Wuhan. It was only when the medical staff from the receiving hospitals posted pictures when these information were uncovered. There is no need to speak of the good deeds you do – this is Xiao Zhan, and a rarity in our impetuous society.
He sincerely accepts all constructive criticisms and will improve upon it. There is no need to have a negative stance against idol/celebrities, his self motivation is as good as any other artist.
He is not a packaged character, he has his own ideals and principles in his heart.
Like any popular artist, he has his fair share of anti-fans, and there is a group of “professional anti-fans” who are paid to spin rumors on him. With so many different stories about him, some would wonder who he really is. In many compositions by “fans leaving him”, the most frequent trait they brought up would be “hypocritical” and “fake”.
So what is Xiao Zhan really like?
Let’s take a look at how he does that.
youtube
He wants to win, but not because the opponent lost.
He has a strong desire to win, but it always stems from fair competition. He is gentle and patient even to his opponents. While watching this video, I had lost my temper already, but he remained gentle and patient throughout. This is almost the classic example of restraint and courtesy. If you want to understand him further, continue with this series, and you will realize that he is as real as you and I.
Being uncouth and impolite does not represent realism. To someone who had been through the ups and downs of society, and has strict moral values, being polite and diplomatic is also real. A teenager may find having a temper with words to match it being realistic, but after meeting various people, becoming part of society, being polite and diplomatic is a reflection of the education and culture you have received. Being real simply means that you face the world with everything of you, and being truthful, doing no wrong is also being real. There is no right or wrong, the real you is as fluid as your experiences build up. The 16 year old you is not the same as the 26 year old you, but it is still you nonetheless, and the difference is made up by your growth. Our real self should be one who is able to face his/her past and present logically, be always forward looking, and be always improving.
In Xiao Zhan’s words to his 18 year old self, “You can have the frivolity, disdain, arrogance and wildness befitting of your age, but you must always remain respectful of everyone around you, and stay in awe of those around you in your heart at all times.”
You can see a man’s character from the details of the things he does. These details I would not have taken much of a notice, but I should start learning these good habits as well.
When you want to understand a person thoroughly, it is best that you do know it not from what others tell you, but from what his action does. From his works, his shows, his interviews, his words, you will find that you can understand him better with your own eyes.

His working capabilities has brought him fans from all corners, but also anti-fans from all over. For a short period in my time with Xiao Zhan as a fan, I momentarily gave up on him because there were just too many anti-fans. However, in this 6 months, he has shown to me the kind of person he is – never speaking of his miseries, fighting his way through on his own, always showing a happy face to those around him. He takes care of everyone around him, from his staff to his colleagues, always emphasized on the importance of education to his team mates, and everyone who has worked with him, from his seniors to his staff, have nothing but praise for him. Being an independent person myself, I choose to believe what I see. He is the first celebrity that I took time to write an article on, and would probably be the last as well. I believe, and I hope you to will, that he is that unique person with a universe in his heart.
Easter Egg – Quotable Quotes from Xiao Zhan
Regardless of how life is bringing down the roof on you, there is always a sky of hope beyond.
Idol and fans are actually symbiotic, we support each other and move forward together. When we live our respective lives well, and continue to become better selves. Hence I would say that my fans, I feel that you must first live your lives well, so that you have spare time to like and follow the idol you like.
I don’t think I’m a perfect person, and I don’t want to be a perfect doll.
There is no technique, throw away the vanity, the most precious component would be sincerity, let us use our passion to do well.
I feel that the ideal status is not changed by regrets. What is most important about life is making sure we live in the present and live well, and not regret the past. Present and future is the most important.
Maintain passion, persist, maybe the path forward is not bright and straight, but there will be countless possibilities. Passion can withstand the test of time, protecting each other is not something that is just said.

Kneepads
Yibo’s legs were ready to give out by the time he got back to his room. It was almost one in the morning. He had been on the harness since six am. The director had decided to focus solely on his action sequences today because Xiao Zhan was offset playing catch up with another drama he had signed on to film concurrently. Yibo flopped over onto his twin bed thinking about the leftover potato salad in the fridge but far too tired to make his way there. There was a folded square of black fabric with thin grey lines running through it placed at the foot of his bed. Yibo picked it up and sat up to look at it.
He ran his fingers over the soft paded fabric. It was – a pair of knee covers. Thin enough that it wasn’t cumbersome, with a soft strap that looped behind his knees. “Fuck...” Yibo muttered quietly under his breath.
They were only talking about this yesterday. It was so hot that both of them had their costumes hitched all the way up between takes, and Xiao Zhan noticed the fresh bruise on Yibo’s knee. “Don’t you use knee pads?” Xiao Zhan asked.
“Who uses knee pads? Oh... maybe Teacher Xiao has to be more careful at his age...” Yibo had teased, all the while being painfully aware of the brush of Xiao Zhan’s thumb against his knee.
When did he even have the time to– Yibo stopped himself mid-thought.
“He gave me his own knee pads,” Yibo said flatly to the room.

The Untamed (( after rant ))
WOW I’ve not done one of these in about a year (literally I think my last one was in 2017). This adaptation was everything I could have asked for and more :’)
The amount of dedication and effort the cql team has put into the project is magical. not only do we get the drama, but we get SUCH beautiful production stills, gorgeous soundtracks (one for almost each and everyone of the characters!!) and so much behind the scenes content. Even the tiktok videos!!!!
I just hope they know the fandom loves and appreciates them so much because they really brought the entire novel to life so well. Sure, it may not be 100% the Best Thing Ever to everyone, but to me it definitely is. they included so many cute scenes and even added in better ones when they had to remove scenes (because of censorship).
Honestly i truly appreciate the fact that they stayed true to the novel and gave us two beautifully written and casted male leads, following the story closely. Of course they changed some parts of the novel, but I didn’t feel like they were bad changes. The story being tighter and neater in a way? Like the scene afterwards where WY and LZ are hiding in a haystack in a farmhouse. I liked that they combined it with the scene where they meet Miao Miao. So many little details like Jingyi’s chicken wing scene and Sizhui putting it back in his mouth, how Sizhui spoke to Wen Ning etc. were given careful attention, and it really shows how well put together this entire adaptation is.
While I’m sad that for the last scene they didn’t have Si Zhui hug Wangxian together as was written in the novel, I thought they changed it really cutely! To have the fully grown SiZhui hug WWX’s leg like when he was younger actually made me tear up while I was watching. Felt like this many times throughout the show, where the scenes weren’t exactly as the novel (for obvious censorship reasons) but I thought that they changed it so well. It still evoked similar emotions and in fact some of them were even better. While they couldn’t give us the blindfold kiss scene (damn it) they replaced it with Wangxian acknowledging each other as their soul mate which made it alright again :’)
There were so, so many cute moments in the show that I’m so glad they managed to portray! And the chemistry between Xiao Zhan and Lan Wangji was amazing. To whoever did the casting, YOU ARE A SAINT!!!!! The show is so so so so well casted, all the actors and actresses were great in their roles, i don’t think i have any complaints. I could go on and on forever about how Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo are absolutely all I ever wished for in live action Wangxian. Seriously, for me, it was like they were made for the roles. The juniors and the other secondary casts were especially well casted too, I enjoyed watching them onscreen and their chemistry together felt so genuine.
I’m also super amazed at the casting of Jin Ling and Jin Guangyao. The two really looked like they could be related.
The ending truly killed me :( Everything was going so well and seriously, would it have killed them to show us a final scene of Wangxian reuniting after they separated? T.T I was in literal tears going, “omg no please don’t end like this why would you make them leave each other aahhhhhhh”. So upsetting to me. But overall I enjoyed this show SO much!! And we can look forward to the side movies that are coming out soon yay! Honestly can’t get enough of this story. I loved all the characters and the way they adapted the novel. One of the rare times when I feel that the show actually lived up to the novel :D Also, I really hope that people don’t keep complaining about how Xiao Zhan and Yibo may not be in the movies because that is not the POINT of the movies anyway. It is meant to expand on the secondary characters. But yessss this has been a great journey for me as a reader and watcher :D

SCI 谜案集 [English Translation] Case 1: Number Killer
Previous
Number Killer 23 Madly in Love
Gongsun wakes up in a haze and realises he is on his bed. The sunlight shines through the fine curtains, brightening up the entire room.
He checks the alarm clock by his bed --- 9 am.
He starts to recall yesterday…
Shaking his head groggily, Gongsun climbs out of his bed to check the living room, but Bai Jintang is already gone.
On the coffee table is the 1986 Bordeaux, holding down a piece of paper:
“The wine is for you. I have other matters to attend to, so I have to go first. Yutang will be there in the morning, don’t leave their side for the whole day!
And get Yutang to take a look at the fifth window of the 13th floor in the opposite building.
--- Bai Jintang”
Though Gongsun is filled with rage just recalling what happened last night, but seeing that bottle of 1986 Bordeaux… nevermind.
He walks into the bathroom, turns on the tap, and checks himself in the mirror. Gongsun pauses.
Why is he in pyjamas??
He doesn’t remember changing before going to sleep yesterday? This can’t be good!
Gongsun unbuttons his pyjamas and spots red words written across his stomach with a marker pen.
“Bai Jintang was here. Bai Jintang has the sole right to develop this property, no other person should approach without permission. PS: Nice figure!!”
“That bastard!” Gongsun hurls his towel onto the ground furiously, “Pervert! Shameless! Bastard!”
Swearing, Gongsun scrubs his stomach… But the permanent marker ink can’t be washed off!
‘Ding dong~ Ding dong~’
The doorbell rings, Gongsun lets go of his towel and rebuttons his pyjamas, it must be Bai Yutang.
He walks out angrily, plotting revenge on Bai Jintang!
But he is baffled after opening the door.
The man standing outside looks tired, his messy hair and unshaved face makes him look battered. He is still in the white lab coat, his expression gloom with deep dark circles.
“You… Why?” Gongsun seems surprised at the person’s sudden visit.
That person stares at Gongsun and smiles, “I wanted to see you.” His voice rough as if broken.
Gongsun stares back at the person in front of him stupidly. Feeling the hair on his back standing suddenly, Gongsun tries to shut the door immediately, but the person pushes back, hard.
Gongsun didn’t see it coming at all; the impact causes him to fall backwards. Using his hand to support his weight as he falls, he feels a sharp pain on his wrist. He has twisted his wrist.
That man walks in from outside, he reaches in his pocket to retrieve a white cloth and closes in on Gongsun.
“Why?” Gongsun backs away, but that man presses on hostilely.
Gongsun struggles to stand up, but the man is faster, forcing the cloth onto his face.
Losing conscious, Gongsun falls into darkness at the sight of the man sneering sinisterly.
Why? Chen Jing…
Chen Jing lets go of the now passed out Gongsun. He touches Gongsun’s face shakily and laughs harshly, “Ha…ha… I said you are mine… You are mine.”
Bai Yutang and Zhan Zhao were up till late last night because of the stuff with Zhao Jue, and they were awakened early in the morning by the phone ringtone. Bai Yutang picks up the phone and sees Gongsun’s name is on the caller ID, he is confused…
“Hello?”
“Huh? I called Xiao Zhao’s phone? Why is it you, Yutang who picked it up? Is Xiao Zhao sleeping beside you right now? Ah! Congratulation Yutang! They say if there’s a will there’s a way, indeed if you try hard enough, you are bound to succeed eventually!”
“…: Bai Yutang took ten seconds to digest this sentence, “Da Ge?? Why are you using Gongsun’s phone?”
“I’m at Gongsun’s place. Since I was abandoned by a heartless brother yesterday and became homeless, I had to seek refuge elsewhere.”
“…” Bai Yutang is speechless, he checks the alarm clock by the bedside --- 8.30am
“You woke me up this early in the morning just to complain?” Bai Yutang climbs out of the bed, yawning.
“Come over to Gongsun’s place now.”
“Why?” Bai Yutang asks, baffled.
“You will know when you come over. Gongsun might be in trouble.”
“What?” Bai Yutang jumps, “What kind of trouble is Gongsun in?”
“Talk less, do more. I need to get going. Yep that’s all.”
“Hello. Ge? Hello!!”
Bai Jintang has already hanged up.
“What’s wrong?”
Bai Yutang’s voice has woken Zhan Zhao up.
Because of the need to ‘protect’ Zhan Zhao, Bai Yutang has moved into the cat’s den yesterday. After the whole night of coaxing and pestering, he finally managed to get to sleep in the same bed as the cat.
Zhan Zhao sits up hazily, hugging his quilt, he feels so sleepy, “What’s wrong? Why are you in such a panic?” There’s movement under the quilt, Luban sticks his furry head out, nuzzles against and licks Zhan Zhao…He meows happily.
Bai Yutang knocks his chin with his phone, and says suddenly, “Cat! Get up!”
They drove to Gongsun’s building.
“Your brother didn’t say what is it about?” They walk into the lift, Zhan Zhao asks Bai Yutang.
“Nope, he just said that Gongsun is in trouble.”
The lift stops on the 11th floor, stepping out of the lift, the two of them are alarmed --- Gongsun’s flat door is wide open.
Glancing at each other, they rush in.
The flat is orderly, only the entrance is messy, especially the footprints on the ground and a white cloth…
“Gongsun?!” Bai Yutang checks the rooms, but Gongsun is nowhere to be found.
“Yutang, read this!” Zhan Zhao picks up the note on the coffee table and pass it to Bai Yutang.
Giving the note a quick sweep, Bai Yutang looks up at the building opposite. One look and he swears, “Shit!” and turns around to dash out. Zhan Zhao follows him swiftly.
“5th window on the 13th floor, who lives there?” Bai Yutang charges into the building and questions the security.
“Ah…You, what do you want?”
Zhan Zhao fetches his ID quickly, “We are police officers.”
“Erh… That, that one is unoccupied, no…no one lives there…” The security answers uncertainly.
“Keys!” Bai Yutang glowers at him intensely, the security passes over the key immediately.
They reached 13th floor in no time, Bai Yutang pulls out his gun while Zhan Zhao fits the key into the door and turns it. Bai Yutang kicks open the door.
The flat is already empty, but the sight inside the flat stunned them.
It is a completely unrenovated flat, in front of the huge floor-to-ceiling window is a high zoom telescope and a couple of video cameras. The floor is a mess, covered in broken objects and torn photos. The entire wall is filled with photo of Gongsun, all taken in secret: photos of him watching TV on the sofa, photos of him drying his hair after shower, photos of him tying his tie, photos of him making a call…
Bai Yutang paces in circles and scratches his head in distress, why didn’t he come over faster?!
Zhan Zhao scans the photos quickly and says suddenly, “I know who it is…”
“What?” Bai Yutang jumps up, “Who?”
“The guy from the mortuary!”
Bai Yutang starts running the moment he hears Zhan Zhao’s words, pulling Zhan Zhao with him and making a call at the same, “Wang Chao, take the guys to the mortuary. Grab that funeral make-up artist, Chen Jing. He has kidnapped Gongsun! Quick!”
Leaping into his car, Bai Yutang fits his car with police light. He slams his gas pedal and speeds towards the mortuary.
“How did you know it’s Chen Jing?” Bai Yutang finally has the time to ask Zhan Zhao while driving.
“Maybe, we were played, since the beginning.”
“…What do you mean?” Bai Yutang overtakes the vehicles in front of him and grumbles, “If only we had a plane!”
“Those photos, the way they are shot, the composition, the lighting… All of it feel so familiar, like I have seen it before!” Zhan Zhao grabs hold onto the roof handle tightly.
“…” Bai Yutang ponders silently for a while, “Those photos of dead bodies Chen Jing passed to Gongsun.”
Zhan Zhao nods, “All those bodies were marked post mortem, in the hospital or the mortuary, the person who have access to all the bodies is…”
“The make-up artist!” Bai Yutang frowns, “He connected cases that are unrelated together, and made up a serial case.”
“Yep!” Zhan Zhao agrees, “Because it happened to involve the Wu Hao case, so it led to the magnification of the cases.”
“He killed Wu Hao.” Bai Yutang speeds again, “Chen Jing’s appearance matches with the description from the prisoners!”
Zhan Zhao shakes his head, “His behaviours displays extreme paranoia, something must have triggered him to act this way.”
“Must be my brother.”
“Yep… He is mysophobia, he would never be able to stand the fact someone else has touched something he is so fond of… Your brother slept over at Gongsun’s place last night, so it became too unbearable for him.”
“Is Gongsun in danger?” Bai Yutang asks Zhan Zhao.
Zhan Zhao is quiet for a minute, “Based on his behaviour, he might kill Gongsun…”
“What? I thought he loves him?”
“Didn’t you see those photos? He is someone who is very possessive or rather very controlling. He doesn’t like it when people fight back. What kind of person will always be obedient and never fight back?”
Bai Yutang answers in despair after hearing Zhan Zhao’s explanation, “…A dead one…”
In the dark room, Gongsun is lying on the icy floor in his thin pyjamas. The chill rising from the ground causes the effect of anaesthetic to wear off quickly.
Gongsun opens his eyes slowly and the ceiling covered in thick layer of filth is what comes into his sight first. Beside him, an electric light that flashes dimly.
“You’re awake?” A hoarse voice sounds beside his ear.
Gongsun turns his head around to see Chen Jing kneeing beside him, staring into his eyes.
Due to the effect of anesthetic, Gongsun feels as if his arms and legs weighs a ton and couldn’t be moved at all.
“Why…?” Gongsun speaks, as if to himself.
“Haha…” Chen Jing cackles self-mockingly, “Of course you wouldn’t understand, because you have never looked at me twice…”
Gongsun is quiet for a bit before saying, “Did you falsified the cases as well?”
“Yes.” Chen Jing says downheartedly, “At first, I just wanted you to notice me, but I didn’t expect you guys to actually establish a case based on it.”
“Hm…Absurd, you murdered someone for this?”
“Absurd? You think this is absurd?!” Chen Jing got agitated, “Do you know how much I love you?!”
He stands up and starts to pace irritably, “I…Since the first time I met you…I…You dare to use the word absurd?”
Stopping his movement, Chen Jing looks down at Gongsun in a predatory expression, “Is it because of that man?”
Gongsun frowns, “Did you thought that the whole world is as twisted as you are?”
“…” After hearing Gongsun’s words, Chen Jing narrows his eyes, but he pauses suddenly, because he noticed the two red lines of words on Gongun’s stomach:
“Bai Jintang was here. Bai Jintang has the sole right to develop this property, no other person should approach without permission. PS: Nice figure!!”
Chen Jing’s eyes turn red and his breathes quickens. His body shakes uncontrollably as if the rage he feels is too much for his body to take.
At that moment, he hears a cold chuckle, a voice comments without warmth, “Can’t you read? Why are you touching something that is not yours?”
Chen Jing feels a sharp pain in his shoulder before he had the chance to turn around. With a loud snap, his shoulder blade is crushed by the person behind him.
“AHHH.” Harsh screams ring out.
Tossing Chen Jing away, he says to the persons in the darkness, “Remove him.”
“Yes!” Two almost identical voices respond from the darkness, cold and unfeeling. Though Chen Jing is aggressive, but he is kept under control quickly and escorted out.
Helping Gongsun up from the cold floor, Bai Jintang smiles, “I have helped you to catch the killer, how will you repay me now?”
When Bai Yutang and Zhan Zhao reach the mortuary, they see the rest of the team from S.C.I. rushing out from the police cars.
They charge into the mortuary, but couldn’t find Chen Jing and Gongsun anywhere.
Just as they were panicking, the door to incineration room opens. Bai Jintang strolls out carrying Gongsun, followed by two men who look identical and dressed identically, dragging the perp --- Chen Jing along.
